History of Engineer Street Bridge

The bridge was originally built and utilized by the Louisville and Nashville (L&N) Railroad. In 1902, the railroad offered the bridge to the City of Corbin, where it was placed over Lynn Camp Creek for Engineer Street and was used for automobile traffic. The bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural style. It was one of only two bridges in Kentucky that was a Pratt through truss with Phoenix columns, as it was built by the Phoenix Iron Company. In the early 1990’s, when the bridge was quite structurally deficient, it was closed to vehicle traffic and has been rehabilitated and now serves as a pedestrian bridge.
